Overview

Regaine 5% Extra Strength Scalp Foam is a well-established treatment for hereditary hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) in men. It contains minoxidil 5% as its active ingredient and is applied directly to the scalp as a foam.

It is designed for men aged 18–49 who are experiencing gradual thinning or early-stage hair loss. Regaine works best when hair loss is recent or moderate — such as thinning on the crown or small areas of loss.

Regaine does not require a prescription. At Vivamen, we offer a short hair loss assessment to help ensure it's a suitable option for you.

How it Works

Minoxidil, the active ingredient in Regaine, helps increase blood flow to the hair follicles and encourages them to remain in the active growth phase for longer.

This can help:

  • Stimulate weakened hair follicles
  • Support thicker, stronger-looking hair over time
  • Slow or stabilise further hair loss
  • Clinical studies have shown that Regaine Foam stabilises hair loss in around 9 out of 10 men.

Consistent, ongoing use is needed to maintain any benefit.

Strengths available
Minoxidil 5% foam.

How to Apply
What to expect

Regaine Foam is generally well tolerated, but side effects can occur.

Common side effects may include:

  • Scalp irritation, itching, or dryness

  • Headache (may affect up to 1 in 10 users)

  • Unwanted hair growth in areas where the foam accidentally spreads

FAQs

Both contain minoxidil 5% and work in the same way. Regaine Foam is licensed for men aged 18–49, while Regaine Solution is licensed for men aged 18–65. The foam is dispensed from a pressurised canister and dries more quickly, while the solution uses a dropper applicator. Both are equally effective.
